Learner Profile in the Classroom

Since the focus of this year's IB meetings is going to be the learner profile and we've already started discussing how it looks within ourselves, let's start there.

What is one way that you address a specific Learner Profile characteristic in your classroom?  Do you address this because it is a strength or a weakness of our students?  If you don't presently do so, what ideas do you have for how you could?

What are your MYP strengths?

Even while some of you like to tell me how poor of a teacher you are, everyone in this room has strengths.  To help us all know where our expertise lies and where we can go for help, please tell us what your strength is.  It could be a learner-profile characteristic or a specific aspect of the program that you feel strong about in terms of your understanding and implementation.  What do you want to show off at during the evaluation visit?

What is your personal MYP goal?

We often speak of MYP being about process more than product.  I believe that should be reflected in our teaching and growth within the program.  In relation to your work in the MYP program, what is your personal goal this year?  What aspect(s) of the program do you want to grow the most in?  How will you attack this?

Possible Interdisciplinary Projects

As we look towards the evaluation visit in the spring, a few aspects of the program really need to be revisited and revised.  One of those is Interdisciplinary work within the MYP.  If you could connect with just one other subject area to create an interdisciplinary project or assignment, what subject would you choose?  Why do you think this connection works?  What ideas do you have now for making this connection?  What would it look like?

Role of the MYP Coordinator

As I make the transition into my new role at PHS, the IB program is going to continue to transform.  Due to this, the jobs of both IB Director and MYP Coordinator will also be evolving.  So, I want a little feedback.  What do you think the primary role of the MYP coordinator should be?  What do you appreciate about the position now?  As the program continues to grow, what would you like to see change about the position?
